Diophantus' Epitaph - Submitted by Nicolas Boisrond, Canada
Difficulty:

Diophantus from Alexandria, often called the "Father of Algebra", is best known for his works on algebraic equations and theories of numbers. He lived around the year 240 AD. However, little is known about his life except for an algebraic riddle that was created by one of his devoted students.

Here it is: Diophantus' youth lasted 1/6 of his whole life. He had his first beard in the next 1/12 of his life. At the end of the following 1/7 of his life, Diophantus got married. Five years later his son was born. His son lived exactly half of Diophantus's life. Diophantus died four years after the death of his son.
